The labor model of home delivery companies is in check. After the ruling of the Supreme Court last Wednesday , the Government proposes regulating the situation of delivery people, also known as riders, through the only avenue that the judges have left open: considering them workers. With the ruling as a guide, the Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, confirmed this Tuesday that she will regulate in favor of some riders who, according to the High Court, are registered as self-employed but their relationship with the company is "of work nature ," the order stated. Thus, the Government plans to submit the opinion to social dialogue to clarify its situation and settle a law that, both sides agree, has taken too long to arrive .
Last week the judges assured that the riders were employees and, therefore, that they were working as false self-employed workers , in a historic ruling after the long legal dispute that the firms were maintaining Middle East Phone Number List in Spain. The ruling, says the minister, comes "at a decisive moment for the sector and may force these companies to regularize thousands of contracts." "Not only is he not an entrepreneur, but there is no margin for autonomy in his employment relationship. They have been among the most vulnerable in the pandemic: they have not been able to defend themselves and they had to work to help us ," she stated. If there is a figure of the false self-employed person who has given something to talk about, it is that of the person known as the rider. Behind them they have not only a backpack of orders, but also a multitude of favorable rulings that support their status as employees and that refer to alleged abuses by the companies. The last of them, and the most important, was the one that the Supreme Court ruled against Glovo last Wednesday .
